Apart from the last ten days of sudden summer weather we are really aware of a change of season in George. We quite enjoy the early morning and evening chill in the air.
Both Philda and I make a point of driving down Third Street to enjoy the Autumn show of browning leaves presented us by the lane of Liquid Amber trees.
Shorter days are unfortunately part of the package and early morning gardening before work is of the past. This is generally a quiet time for gardeners and we get a well deserved rest. There are still roses to be tended to and thanks to the regular rain the garden appears green and lush.
The summer ends with a splash of colour from some of my favourite plants like the indigenous Plecanthrus group and the Salvia family. Every garden should have some of these fantastic plants because there is such a variety of forms and shapes : from hanging basket size, ground covers to giants of 2 meter in size.
The hydrangea flowers are slowly turning red and only a few new flowers remain, but the deep red of the old flowers makes for a lovely display in combination with the first flowers of the Camillia Sasanqua.
We have had no bergwind yet and our Tibouchina tree is in full bloom
In the vegetable garden the kale is doing well and the first peas are breaking the earths crust. There are aubergines and peppadews to be harvested soon.
